Dear Blossom Families,

Happy November! We hope you all had a safe and spooky Halloween. It was beautiful to see you all at DD Ranch. With the new month, we are excited to remind you that conferences are nearly upon us. Conferences will be held on November 11th. We are excited to meet with you and discuss your little Blossom. If there are any questions, concerns, or ways we can help you as parents in our classroom, we are more than happy to discuss them with you at your conference time. It is also an excellent time for us to tell you all the fantastic work your child has been doing!

October was a wonder-filled month as we dove into the world of Fairy Tales. We focused our first week on learning what fairy tales are and where they come from. With this, we used The Three Little Pigs as our guide. We made houses of our own and even had a surprise visit from the Big Bad Wolf, who tried her very best to blow those houses down. Our second week was focused on the oral tradition, and we used Jack and the Beanstalk to help us understand the culture of telling stories, both familiar and new. We planted our magic beans and have even seen some of them start to sprout! Our third week was dedicated to Fairy Tale tropes, and we traveled worldwide to listen to different versions of Cinderella. Together, we found the similarities and the differences in these iterations. We then moved on to learning about all the other unique fairy tales and folk tales from around the world– we looked at literature from Africa, Japan, Hawaii, Russia, India, and more. Our final week was spent learning that we can create our own stories, too! Our class wrote their very own fairy tale together.

For November, we will change gears and dive into our study about Trees. We will be talking about the life cycle of a tree, species of trees native to Oregon, animals that live in or around trees, and the people whose professions are working on trees and how we use trees in our everyday lives. If you or anyone close to you has experience in this field or artifacts that you would like to share, we would love to have you come and visit our classroom.

We look forward to seeing you all soon at conferences!

Reminders:

  • With the weather getting colder, please ensure your child has a warm jacket, boots, two pairs of gloves or mittens, and a hat.
  • Please bring home your child’s blanket and loveys each week to be cleaned.
  • Check your child’s art folder weekly.  It’s on the shelf ahead as you enter the classroom.
  • We will go outside every day and want to ensure everyone stays warm and comfortable.

We are so grateful to you for sharing your creative, kind, curious, clever, capable, and caring children with us this year!

All of the love,

Miss Madeline and Ms Stephanie
