Sprout 2 Families

October has been such a fun month in Sprout 2.

Our study was Paper and Play. The Sprouts explored and created art using newspapers, paper plates, paper towels, and paper cups. We discovered that paper has many uses, and each kind makes a different noise. Tearing paper versus crinkling it up was such a difference regarding sound. The Sprouts did such a great job using paper during crafting activities, and with Halloween this month art time had a spooky twist we all enjoyed together. We did some pumpkin painting and no-mess sensory bags filled with shaving cream, orange paint, and autumn confetti!

MonthlyHighlights:

  • Brody used paper and glue to create his adorable pumpkin to hang on the board.
  • Bode uses many gross motor skills. He loves to push the toy trucks on the carpet area and zips around on the bikes outside! Vroom!
  • June is always ready to play in the sensory bins. This month we filled them with paper, pom poms, scoops, and spiders, and she enjoyed exploring this activity!
  • Norah has been collecting all the fall leaves on the playground. She likes to carry them around and show them off to all her teachers!
  • Owen liked to fill his paper bags with toy food from the home center. We said, “Looks like you’re going grocery shopping!”
  • Mary gets excited about art projects and takes pride in her creations. She’s also super focused and detailed when making art—a natural artist!
  • Alice’s favorite art project was stamping the paper cup with paint. She made a circle masterpiece.
  • Savannah used her fine motor skills to string beads onto pipe cleaners. She was so focused and engaged!
  • Van loves circle time. He claps and sings with his friends. His favorites are slippery fish and five apples in the apple tree. He uses math skills to count along!

Next Month:

Our November study will be on Shoes and Socks.  A toddler’s natural curiosity about and interest in shoes and socks will lead to their growing independence! Putting on and taking off their shoes and socks is good practice and helps them feel more confident in their abilities to care for themselves. In addition, the Sprouts will be exploring different types of shoes, exploring footprints, and categorizing shoes from small to big. Being able to take your shoes and socks off can be frustrating for your Sprout, and they will experience big emotions in the process, but their success will be worth it all.

Books:

  • Pete the Cat I love my White Shoes
  • Shoe La-La
  • Fox in Socks
