Sprout 2 Families
November found the Sprouts exploring Shoes and Socks. We learned about various types of footwear, including boots, slip-ons, sneakers, and climbing shoes. The Sprouts also enjoyed a creative activity in which they matched sock colors, bringing a playful touch to the theme.
In addition to our shoe-themed activities, we had a lot of fun with art projects, such as creating handprint turkeys and painting with watercolors. Each day during circle time, we read Pete the Cat books, including Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes, and Shoe La La. These books were a great way to reinforce our study of shoes while promoting a love for reading. It was a month filled with creativity, learning, and fun.
Sproutlights:
- Brody loves Pete the Cat books. He’s always excited to read them and seems to connect with Pete’s fun, adventurous spirit.
- Bode is way more interested in trucks and things with wheels. He enjoys building train tracks for his trains to drive on.
- Owen had a blast putting the socks on his hands like “gwoves” (gloves). He seemed to enjoy the playful twist and was engaged in the activity.
- June loves singing before every meal, especially our “Thank You” song. Her joy reaches new heights when she gets to sing in Spanish, belting out “Gracias” with pure delight. The music fills her with joy, making each meal just that special.
- Alice had a lot of fun during the sock scavenger hunt hosted by Ms. Kelcy.
- Norah decided to give herself a real challenge. She put socks on both hands and gripped a crayon to color. Though it was tough, she was up for a challenge.
- Mary demonstrated a high level of independence during our shoes and socks unit. She efficiently managed the task herself by showing confidence and resilience.
- Savannah enjoyed the matching sock project; she LOVED matching the correct socks to one another.
- Van loved the book Shoe-La-La so much that he wanted to read it every day. He was excited to revisit the story and enjoyed the colorful characters.
In December, we will explore “Bags and Bows.” While bags are everyday items that most people use, children often find them fascinating and enjoy mimicking how others use them. This study offers a beautiful opportunity for children to interact with and examine various bags, sparking curiosity as they discover how to use these items.
