Blossom Room
Blossom Room
Our Philosophy:
As you enter the Blossom Room you can expect to see a room of curious learners who love to explore their environment. Developing a positive self image and a love of learning is the foundation for all future learning. We encourage and give children the opportunity to:
- Be responsible for him/herself and their environment
- Respect others
- Grow and develop at their own pace
Nurturing Care:
Compassionate teachers, a safe environment, and fun and interesting age appropriate activities allow your child to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Blossoms are four to five years old. They love to tell their friends what they know and how they learned it. Blossoms talk about “Best Friends” and are beginning to understand the concept of cooperative play.
Growth and Development:
Our Blossom Room staff provides a structured, but flexible schedule that nourishes each child’s development. It is an environment which gives children opportunities to learn in small groups and encourages talking about what they have learned. They mix quiet times and noisy times, singing and games, and outdoor and indoor play. Teachers encourage problem solving by asking guiding questions, and teach self-discipline by promoting respect for others and ourselves. Kindergarten readiness is a goal of the Blossom Classroom. Lesson plans center around these seven areas of development:
- Personal and Social – includes self -concept, self-control, interaction with others, and conflict resolution
- Language and Literacy – includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Mathematical Thinking – includes patterns, numbers, shapes and measuring
- Scientific Thinking – includes observation, questioning, and predicting
- Social Studies – includes exploring other cultures, rights, rules
- The Arts – includes art and music
- Physical Development – includes gross and fine motor development
Discipline is a normal part of growing up. At Growing Tree we define “discipline” as teaching. It is our policy to never shame or embarrass a child for his/her actions. Instead we emphasize the positives: what they can do, using redirection instead of timeouts, logical consequences, and encouraging children to be responsible for their own actions.
